Wexford SHC final: Oulart the Ballagh 2-15 St Martin’s 0-13

Nicky Kirwan was the star for Oulart the Ballagh as they picked up their sixth Wexford SHC title in seven years with a comfortable eight-point win over St Martin’s.

Kirwan hit 1-5 for the 12-time champions, who were featuring in their 11th final in 12 seasons.

Surprisingly, Oulart are yet to win a Leinster crown, but they were on their way here by half-time when they led 2-6 to 0-6

They will now set their sights on a first provincial crown, starting with their November 1 meeting with Laois champions Clough Ballacolla.

They were 1-4 to 0-1 ahead after 17 minutes when Kirwan’s ground shot ended up in the back of the St Martin’s net.

Martin’s beat Oulart in the 2008 Wexford decider, but conceded another hammer-blow five minutes before the break, when Gareth Sinnott hit the second goal.

There was no way back from here as Oulart pulled clear in the closing stages and will go in search of that coveted Leinster prize again.
